Visit from the International Foundation to Help Peru Partners

Across Peru, many communities continue to face barriers to accessing quality healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. Addressing these challenges requires more than isolated interventions. It requires long-term partnerships built on trust, local leadership, and a shared vision for change.

Recently, representatives from the International Foundation traveled to Peru to experience this work firsthand, visiting partner organizations and communities in Loreto and along the northern coast.

Río Limpio

In Loreto, the visit focused on the Río Limpio project, a community-based dengue prevention initiative implemented by PRISMA in partnership with Penn State.

Community health workers move from house to house, working with families to better understand and prevent dengue. For many, this knowledge has been transformative.

“We didn’t know that the mosquito lived inside our homes,” one community member shared. “Now we know what to look for and what to change.”

Small changes in daily habits are already making a difference, as families and communities take a more active role in prevention.

An Integrated Approach to Community Health

The journey continued in Huanchaco, where the team visited Hands On Peru and their community-based health initiatives.

A visit to a local public health center and conversations with healthcare staff highlighted the need to strengthen coordination around health education and access to care. At the same time, more than 100 people gathered for a medical campaign, with families, volunteers, and health professionals coming together in a shared effort.

These moments reflect the value of integrated approaches that connect health, livelihoods, and community engagement.

The impact of partnership

For visiting donors, the experience offered something difficult to capture in reports alone. Seeing the work firsthand creates a deeper understanding of its impact and the importance of supporting it.

Across Peru, these partnerships continue to grow, strengthening the possibility of a future where more communities have the tools and support they need to thrive.
