Sinfonía por el Peru: Music to Transform Lives project
Sinfonia por el Perú is committed to generating processes of social transformation through the collective teaching of music. The project supported by Help Peru in Huaraz provides a safe and protective environment for the participants, as many of them may come from homes affected by domestic violence, poverty, and other factors that limit their opportunities for development. At the same time, it seeks to foster young people’s autonomy and entrepreneurship, so that they can make the most of their skills and potential and forge a promising future. The project currently serves more than 200 children with some 800 members of their families receiving indirect benefits from their participation.
Sinfonia por el Perú has shown across their national program: a 51% reduction in the use of physical punishment in the family environment; a 75% reduction in the prevalence of teenage pregnancy and 18% in risk behaviors in the personal environment; and a 29% increase in the number of young people who aspire to postgraduate studies in the educational environment.
