For ten weeks, Help Lift Peru brought together leaders from five nonprofit organizations to learn, exchange experiences, and strengthen the capacities that sustain their impact.
Developed by Help Peru in collaboration with LUCHA, the pilot was created in response to a shared challenge: many local organizations have a deep understanding of the communities they serve, yet need additional tools to strengthen their management, diversify funding, communicate their impact, and build long-term sustainability.
ANIA, Asociación Cultural D1, Misión Huascarán, Hands on Peru, and Sembrando Juntos participated in this first experience. Together, they work across education, health, environmental sustainability, and community development.
The partnership with LUCHA brought together its experience in innovation and social entrepreneurship with Help Peru’s work strengthening local organizations. This combination resulted in a strong program designed to improve the impact, visibility, and sustainability of Peruvian nonprofits, particularly those facing significant challenges in the current context.
“At Help Peru, we are committed to strengthening the capacities of Peruvian nonprofits and community-based organizations so they can build resilience and create lasting change for the country’s most vulnerable populations,” said Adriana Delgado, Deputy Director of Help Peru. “Since 2023, we have supported our partner organizations through technical guidance and capacity building, and now we hope to bring this experience to more organizations across Peru’s social and development ecosystem.”
Ten Weeks of Learning and Connection
Help Lift Peru combined in-person and virtual sessions, pre-recorded content, Q&A spaces, practical assignments, and peer-learning gatherings. The program explored key areas such as strategy, project management, impact measurement, governance, storytelling, fundraising, sustainability, and artificial intelligence for nonprofits.
Yet the program’s greatest value went beyond the content itself. Over the course of the pilot, participants built a trusted community (“the tribe”) where they could openly discuss the challenges of leading an organization, exchange ideas, and learn from others facing similar realities.
“Help Lift Peru encouraged me to look inward and understand that behind every impact result is a team and an organization that also need to be strengthened. I am leaving with clear solutions to D1’s challenges, the ability to tell our story through data and emotion, and a tribe of nonprofit leaders who remind me that transformation is collective,” said María José Arguedas, Project Owner of Ángeles D1 at Asociación Cultural D1.
Representatives from the other participating organizations also highlighted this combination of practical tools and peer learning.
“For me, Help Lift Peru was a valuable space for learning and exchanging ideas with other organizations. I am taking away many meaningful lessons that I will put into practice to strengthen ANIA,” said Anyela Gómez, Project Coordinator at Asociación para la Niñez y su Ambiente – ANIA.
Mario Neyra, General Manager of Misión Huascarán, also highlighted the value of learning alongside other nonprofit leaders:
“It was important to strengthen our knowledge and gain highly useful tools from speakers with extensive experience in the nonprofit sector. Beyond the technical training, the most valuable part was sharing and learning directly from nonprofit leaders who face challenges similar to ours, and with whom we can now continue exchanging experiences. Thank you, tribe!”
Learning and Growing Together
Like every pilot, Help Lift Peru also revealed valuable opportunities for the future. Practical sessions, close guidance, and peer-learning spaces proved especially meaningful.
“Our main lesson was that learning must be practical, participants need opportunities to learn by doing, along with close guidance as they begin leading change within their organizations,” Delgado explained. “In future editions, we want to create more opportunities to apply what they have learned through experiences such as bootcamps, peer exchanges, and mentorship.”
By investing in the people and institutions behind change, Help Peru seeks to strengthen not only individual projects, but also the ecosystem that makes their work possible and sustainable.
