Supporting Rural Youth to Access Higher Education

In Peru, the education system often leaves rural youth without the tools they need to thrive beyond school. More than 70% of Peruvians work informally—without social protections, health care, or stable income—and access to higher education is vastly unequal between urban and rural areas. In regions like Loreto, only 5% of rural residents pursue education beyond secondary school. Through our partnership with Amantani, we are helping to change this reality.
Amantani works to change this reality by supporting young people from remote Andean and Amazonian communities during a key stage in their lives.
The project offers personal development workshops, emotional support, and vocational guidance to students from rural Andean and Amazonian communities in their final years of high school.
Through personal development workshops, teacher training, and guidance for the national Beca 18 scholarship, the project equips students with the skills and support they need to navigate the transition from school to higher education. In regions where only 5% of rural youth continue studying, Amantani is helping change that reality, one student at a time
