Building a Better Future

July 28th is Independence Day in Peru! Peruvian Independence was declared on July 28th, 1821, by the Spaniards. But Spaniards still had a stronghold of forces in the country’s center. Peru struggled for full liberation for a few more years until the ultimate two battles, Junín on August 6, 1824, and  Ayaucho on December 9, 1824, Spanish power was broken, and Peru’s independence was ensured. 200 years later, Peru has strengthened civil society and continues to do so. Happy Independence Month, Peru!

Help Peru provides technical assistance, program support, and organizational capacity building to its partner organizations in addition to project funding. This summer, we facilitated the visit of two British volunteers with deep professional experience to support our partners in marketing, communication, fundraising, entrepreneurship, and business management. These volunteers share their experience with the families and staff of our projects that Sembrando Juntos and Conservamos Por La Naturaleza – SPDA implement with our support in the Amazonas and Lima regions. Vivien Crummey, with expertise in communication, and Karen MacDougall, an expert in finances, are also learning from our partners and communities and will be excellent ambassadors for Help Peru when they return to their country. For more information about volunteer activities and/or donor trips to see first-hand the incredible work our projects are doing, please get in touch with Brianna Simmons at [email protected]

As part of the approach to building a culture of philanthropy in Peru, we held a special event with Help Peru’s Peruvian partner, Asociación Civil Help Peru, in Lima. The event was graciously hosted with Peruvian food and drinks at the Home of Maria Grazzia Spinzi & Fernando Bravo (BoardDirector). Special guests and donors were invited to enjoy the evening together. Chris Price, Help Peru’s Executive Director, gave an update about the organization, followed by Deputy Director Adriana Delago, who provided an overview of all the program partners’ work. To top off the wonderful evening, guests were entertained by a performance by our first cohort of dancers from D1.
