Sembrando Juntos: Quality Preschool Education for families living below the poverty line project

Sembrando Juntos works within a context where 24% of children are not enrolled in school, more than 90% of classrooms do not stimulate creative thinking or use of language, and where 5 out of 10 caregivers have hit their children with an object as a corrective measure.  Sembrando Juntos promotes quality early education and healthy family bonds to achieve cognitive, emotional and social development, as well as the development of language and communication in children from three to five years of age.

The Sembrando Juntos Laboratory School is located within the Pachacutec citadel, in the district of Ventanilla where most of the population is migrant, has no access to water, sewage and electricity services, and lives below the poverty line. With support from Help Peru, this project strengthens the skills of teachers and educational assistants and involves parents in their children’s learning. This allows Sembrando Juntos to provide innovative learning opportunities to more than 100 children annually thereby closing the educational gap created by poverty and ensuring a better future where children are able develop their full potential. The project also benefits 450 parents and community members, 160 pre-school teachers from other schools, and 10 teachers and assistants working in the project by providing opportunities for the exchange of learning experiences, talks on healthy eating habits, and training on income generation activities.
